Accommodation is often the first expense when you go on vacation. To help you reduce the hotel budget as much as possible without compromising on quality, we have compiled a list of hotels and B & Bs that have the best value for money in South Africa. Our criteria are: affordable prices, an ideal location and clean, comfortable rooms. Of course there are less expensive than these accommodations but we think that our recommendations are the best compromise for a good stay (you don't want to be too far from points of interest and waste time in transport or arrive in a room poorly cleaned bathroom…). In addition, we went to sleep ourselves in all these accommodations during our vacation and we strongly recommend them because we were impressed by the very good level of services given the low prices offered. On average, these accommodations cost around € 60 per night for a standard double room, which amounts to € 30 per person if you share with your partner. These low prices allow you to use your savings to fully enjoy South Africa. You will not regret it !

Little Eden: the best value for money to sleep in Saint Lucia in South Africa

Most of the accommodation in Saint Lucia, South Africa is bed and breakfast. The few hotels in town are well below B & B quality and we don't recommend them. Of all establishments, the best value for money that we found is the B&B Little eden. Its prices are very affordable, it is in a great location and the view of the bay from the top of the hill is just magnificent. In addition, the rooms are well appointed, the staff very friendly and the pool pleasant. We loved it and for us Little Eden is the best budget accommodation in St Lucia.

The Old Trading Post: the cheap cheap plan for Wilderness in South Africa

For a low cost Guest House, 'The Old Trading Post' is the best at Wilderness. We recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet, charming, well-kept and inexpensive place. The small wooden chalets of Zur alten mine in the middle of the woods look like a fairy tale. Only a few minutes from Graskop, this accommodation is the hotel with the best value for money near Blyde River Canyon. The setting is idyllic and you can walk in the gardens, around the pond or even walk to an old mine. The chalets are clean, well appointed and comfortable. No complaints. Our welcome was warm and the manager gave us lots of useful advice for visiting the essential sites of the region.

Dalmore Farm Guest House: the hotel with the best value for money near Royal Natal Park

Dalmore Farm Guest House is a very nice B&B at a low price. It is certainly the cheapest option but it is also our favorite! You can rent pretty, inexpensive chalets completely renovated in exposed brick with large, extremely comfortable beds. And after a day of hiking in the Drakensbergs, you can relax your legs in the beautiful swimming pool. The service is top notch and the staff very hospitable. Lost in nature near the Royal Natal Park, this peaceful guesthouse is for us the hotel with the best value for money from Mont aux sources in South Africa.

We chose to sleep at the guest house in Zuurberg Mountain Village which is located right at the entrance to Addo Elephant National Park and it was a very good strategic choice that we highly recommend. Perched on the heights, the guest house offers a breathtaking view of the South African reserve! In addition, it is the best value hotel in the vicinity of Addo Elephant Park. The chalets for rent are comfortable, inexpensive and have a very nice swimming pool surrounded by a manicured lawn which is often visited by monkeys. You add to all this a very good reception and you get the best B&B in Addo Elephant Park in South Africa !

To stay in Plettenberg Bay, we recommend that you stay at the B&B 113 on Robberg. The Guest house is in a great location as you are a stone's throw from Robberg National Park, the most beautiful park on the Garden Route, and downtown Plettenberg Bay is just a short drive away. This small, quality B&B offers clean, comfortable rooms at very affordable prices. You have the choice between rooms with bathroom or small studio with kitchen for families. In the guesthouse category, there is no better in terms of service, location and price. It is from afar the best value for money hotel to stay in Plettenberg Bay in South Africa. The atmosphere is as friendly as at home and pets are welcome to have fun with their sausage dogs! During our stay, we wanted for nothing: the breakfast was very good and they have a nice little swimming pool next to the BBQ area.

Khotso Lodge & Horse Trails: the hotel with the best value for money to sleep near Sani Pass

There is not much choice for accommodation in Underberg near Sani Pass. Nevertheless, we highly recommend the Khotso Lodge & Horse Trails. The charm of this South African farm and the friendliness of the managers amazed us. They have cute traditional chalets with simple but still clean and comfortable rooms. We do not ask for more as the landscape in front of the window is magnificent. Located at the foot of the Drakensbergs near Sani Pass, the place is magical. It is a working farm that breeds horses and mounts. The employees will be happy to show you around their farm and they offer superb horseback riding in the mountains. We had an authentic experience, lost in nature and far from stress, which we recommend to everyone. In addition, their prices are unbeatable. It is by far the hotel with the best value for money from Underberg to stay near Sani Pass. So there is no reason not to book!

Mantenga Lodge: the best value hotel near Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary

Mantenga Lodge is one of the few options for sleeping around Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary (the rest is really bad). It is also the hotel with the best value for money in Swaziland (now Eswatini). This lodge is often full thanks to its magnificent setting. It offers a beautiful panoramic view of Execution Rock from the restaurant terrace. Moreover, their cuisine is delicious. We recommend that you eat there (the chef arrives with a pan on fire to serve you!). We also liked the monkeys who come to keep you company for breakfast. Their chalets have a superb view of the surrounding nature and are well appointed. Also, the pool was under construction when we were there but the photos on the internet show that they did a great job. If they have room, you won't regret it.

The Concierge Boutique Bungalows: the hotel with the best value for money to sleep in Durban

The Concierge Boutique Bungalows is a real nugget! We were surprised to find such a nice and pleasant hotel at such a price (it's really cheap for the service!). We share this discovery with you hoping that the best value hotel in Durban will please you as much as we do. Its rooms are tastefully decorated and are super comfortable: the bed is soft and the bathroom sublime. In addition, the hotel is in a good location (which surprised us given the very affordable price). It's close to the beach and its friendly Golden Mile promenade, and it's less than 10 minutes' walk to Florida Road, the city's busiest street. We recommend that you spend the evening there to eat a traditional bunny chow (a hollowed out and curry-filled bread typical of this region of South Africa) or have a drink in one of the many bars.

The +: Note that the hotel has in its courtyard a very good coffee shop (the freedom cafe) for breakfast.
