Thonga Beach Lodge has the privilege of being located inside iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and main attraction of St Lucia (this privilege comes at a rather high price but all meals are included) . The place is quiet and isolated in nature. To get there, the only option is to take the hotel's 4 × 4 which picks you up and takes you to the heart of the national park along a superb sandy track next to the huge beach. Once you arrive, you discover a corner of paradise cut off from the modern world. This is the best luxury hotel in the region from very far away. And it is also part of the top accommodation in South Africa. These luxurious cabins are extremely romantic. Perched in the trees, they all have a terrace with a magnificent view of the ocean from where you can observe whales. We would like to live there… In addition, their very wild and always deserted private beach is accessible in 30 seconds and you can snorkel there to admire the seabed filled with fish. The lucky ones will even see a turtle laying these eggs in the white sand. Here, it is not so rare! If you are diving, this 5 star hotel offers sea trips to Sodwana Bay which is South Africa's best diving spot. It also offers many activities such as kayaking or 4 × 4 in the park. When you come back in the evening, don't miss out on a massage. They are just amazing!

If you chose to do the Kruger without a private reserve (or if you made a private reserve at the Kruger and loved it!), Then why not indulge in a private reserve at Hluhluwe-Umfolozi? We recommend you Thanda Safari Lodge. It's the best of the best (with the price that follows, of course…). The private reserve was even voted Africa's best luxury hotel at the World Travel Awards. The principle is the same as in the Kruger: the reserve has its own animals which live in total freedom in a large park of 14 hectares. You have a better chance of seeing the Big 000 here than in the national park. This is definitely the only way to see cheetahs unless you are extremely lucky… Plus the rangers are very informative and friendly. The price includes all meals with drinks (very good gastronomy with fine products morning, noon and night!) And two 5-hour jeep safaris (at dawn and late afternoon) with aperitif in the bush ! In the hottest of the day, you can lounge in your (huge) villa which has a private swimming pool and a free mini bar… In winter, the fireplace is lit in each villa and board games like Scrabble or Monopoly are available . In the evening you can relax in the spa with a massage or have a drink on the terrace in front of the small pond where many animals come to be satisfied. In short, the dream! After a day full of memories, you can recharge your batteries in your luxury room in the middle of nature and wake up in a magnificent setting with a view of the savannah in the early morning… Just unforgettable. Do we need to say more to convince you that this lodge is the best luxury hotel in the park ?

Our opinion between private reserves and self-drive circuit in Kruger National Park in South Africa

If you can afford it, we recommend that you stay on a private reserve for two days. This is warranty to see all the animals in no time. Discovering the Kruger National Parc in luxury safari mode is a magical experience that we wish everyone ... That said, discovering the immensity of the park by going on a self-drive safari is also a special adventure (see our tour recommendation in our two articles'The best route to visit Kruger National Park day 1/2'and'The best route to visit Kruger National Park day 2/2'). Having done both, we recommend that all travelers divide their time at the Kruger in half :

If you have 2 days in the park, do one day on your own and the other on a private reserve. If you have 3 days at the Kruger, do 2 days in private reserve and 1 day on your own (or vice versa if your budget does not allow it).

Emily Moon River Lodge: the best luxury boutique hotel in Plettenberg Bay on the garden route in South Africa

Known to all South Africans who spend their vacations at Plettenberg Bay, Emily Moon River Lodge is an institution. Many come there for a drink or dinner to enjoy the magnificent setting at sunset, for lack of being able to sleep there ... the best luxury boutique hotel to stay in this region from South Africa (although much cheaper than Tsala Treetop Lodge). The lodge is perched on a hill overlooking the river and its lagoon. The decoration is magnificent. The rooms are all different and very comfortable. The restaurant is renowned in the region. We couldn't recommend better… But this luxury hotel is often full! So book well in advance if you've fallen for this idyllic spot on the Garden Route.

The + : The lodge lends bikes and canoes for the day.

The rooms are all very comfortable and have a wonderful view of the ocean. There is nothing to add.

The Oyster Box: Durban's Best Luxury Hotel in South Africa

The Oyster Box Hotel is one of the top 10 best 5 star hotels in South Africa. It is therefore not surprising that it is the best luxury hotel in Durban (from far away). The best of the best, the most prestigious, exceptional, mythical… There is no lack of superlatives to qualify it. Its superb is also reflected in its price ... If it is within your means, go for it! If you are on a honeymoon or have kept a budget to treat yourself for a night, don't hesitate either. This luxury hotel is a true South African institution. It would be pointless to describe this palace as the photos speak for themselves ... Everything here is world class: the view, the rooms, the award-winning KwaZulu spa, the infinity pools, the restaurants, the breakfast, the gym, the private cinema, the bars, the rooftop, the tea room, etc… It is located in front of the ocean in Umhlanga, a district of Durban by the sea. From the beach you can watch the dolphins, go surfing or even diving.

Consulting : the 'high tea' in the tea room of this 5-star hotel is so famous that you have to book well in advance to enjoy their selection of pastries by the end of the afternoon facing the ocean.

Our tips for a successful trip:

  • Book your flight in advance to take advantage of the best prices

Airline ticket prices are cheaper when booked 6 to 3 months in advance. To be sure of getting the best price, we recommend using a flight comparator such as Skyscanner.

  • Book your accommodation before departure to have access to the best offers

You will always find a room at the last minute, but the best located accommodations are necessarily those that are always full. That's why it's best to book your accommodations as soon as possible. We recommend going through Agoda which offers the best prices. In addition, this site allows you to be easily reimbursed in the event of cancellation.

  • Skip the line to visit the most popular attractions

By booking your excursions in advance on Civitatis, you do not queue on site to get your tickets. Less time waiting = more time enjoying your vacation! Plus, their guided tours ensure you have a knowledgeable guide who speaks your language.

  • Use a comparator to find a rental car at the lowest price

Save yourself hours of research with rentalcar.com ou discovercars.com. These comparators are the best for finding rental cars at the lowest prices.

  • Don't leave without travel insurance

For us, it is unimaginable to leave without travel insurance. We recommend the one proposed by AXIS. This is the best guaranteed way to leave with peace of mind. However, consider taking out additional specialized insurance for activities not covered (such as skiing or scuba diving).
